This year, it went bonkers and shot up like a rocket! Turns out it's a black hollyhock and is now blooming dark-colored flowers the one pictured here is missing a petal, but you get a general idea. It grew a few more leaves last year, so I figured it must be something. And then there was a strange, leafy plant that was really small. There was a nice purple Lupine for two years, some orange Cosmos, and a couple of California Poppy that returns annually (albeit with tiny blooms). ![]() A few plants emerged, undeterred by the poor quality clay-like soil.
